5Star

5Star is a British TV channel owned by Viacom International Media Networks Europe and was launched in 2006 as a female orientated channel named Five Life.

Originally launched to broadcast lifestyle programs for the female audience with programmes including  The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Love My Way, Windfall, Angela’s Eyes, and a weekday double-bill of the chat show Trisha Goddard. A day after the launch, Five Life began to broadcast the Australian soap Home and Away.

Five Life was relaunched in 2008 as Fiver.

In 2008 Five Life became Fiver to attract a younger audience using brighter, louder and faster concepts but with the female gender once again as the primary target audience.

Fiver became 5Star in 2011.

In 2011 the channel became 5* using the symbol * but pronounced 5 Star. The target audience also changed from lifestyle to more so reality TV with a blend of fictional TV shows, including, The Walking Dead and another Australian soap was added, Neighbours. Reality TV shows broadcast on 5Star include Big Brother: Live from the House, Bar Rescue, World’s Worst Tenants and Top 20 Funniest

In February 2016, the channel was acquired by Viacom and rebranded 5Star, removing the * symbol from the logo.
